Washington Hospital Center
The War of the RosesWashington Hospital Center is the setting for Oliver’s emergency-room treatment after a crash in the library leaves him injured. The hospital scene is brief, but its combination of physical care and misreading of his condition gives the institution a pointed role in the episode.
Emergency-Room Encounter
At the emergency room, an intern examines Oliver and tells him, “You're lucky it's not broken.” The intern advises him to stop drinking, saying, “You'd better get off the juice. This is what always happens.” Oliver insists he is not drinking, but, aware of how he smells, sees little point in arguing. He accepts a shot of painkiller and returns home.
Role in the Episode
The encounter establishes that Oliver’s injury requires treatment, but the exchange centers as much on the intern’s assumption of intoxication as on the injury itself. Oliver’s denial does not change the intern’s assessment, and he leaves with pain relief rather than any further care described in the scene. The hospital therefore appears only through this narrow episode: an emergency stop between the library accident and Oliver’s return to the house.
